Mobile phones are becoming increasingly more sophisticated, and therefore businesses need to be aware of the massive marketing opportunity that the mobile phone has to offer. Mobile phones have become, not just a communications device, but a personal hub of information; something the consumer has on them at all times, and that they use for pretty much everything. 4 in 5 smartphone users will not leave the house without their handset.
What does this mean for mobile marketing?
With customers on their smartphones 24/7, an opportunity has arisen for marketing messages to be personalised to each customer. Another idea is for the customers to be segmented into groups that will be interested in a certain type of message. By using CRM to keep track of consumers buying and interest patterns, this is fairly easy to carry out, and delivers great results. If a customer is to see a message which includes their name, and something they are actually interested in, they are much more likely to read it. Personalised marketing messages also lower the chance of being labelled a ‘spammer’.
A Great SMS marketing example
H’s Dresses is a dress shop and Julie is a fashion lover. With the summer season just around the corner, H’s Dresses has new stock and it is likely that Julie will be on the hunt for her summer dresses. Julie bought a lot of summer dresses from H’s Dresses last year, but the question is, will she shop around, or will she stay loyal? H’s Dresses uses a data capture system whereby whenever a customer buys they give their email and mobile number. Julie’s details have been segmented into the ‘interested in summer dresses’ section of the customer database, and all of these customers have been sent a text message, letting them know that the new dresses are in, and offering 10% off.
Julie feels touched by the personalised text message, and hadn't actually started her summer shopping yet. But of course now she is going to go straight to H’s dresses and make the most of her 10% off. The customer feels rewarded and cared for, and is retained.
See, it’s simple! SMS marketing is one tactic you don’t want to be missing out on! And here at SMS club, we do it for you!
